Edge Career

1996-2002

Edge debuted in the WWF as Sexton Hardcastle on May 10, 1996. Later that year, in 1997, he toured the Grand Prix, where he received training from De Marco. Following his training, he made his WWF television debut as Edge versus Jose Estrada Jr. in June 1998. Edge won his first singles championship, the WWF Intercontinental Championship, in July 1999, defeating Jeff Jarrett. However, he was defeated the following night by Jarrett for the title. He worked on WrestleMania 2000 with Christian. The pair went on to capture the WWF Tag Team Championship, a feat they repeated six times. They eventually lost the tag titles to Hardy Boyz.

Edge went on to win the King of the Ring competition in 2001, establishing himself as a promising singles competitor. During this time, his friendship with Christian soured, and the two wrestled for the Intercontinental Championship, which Edge won. Later, he was defeated by Test. Edge made up for his defeat by defeating Kurt Angle to win the WCW US Championship. Edge and Hulk Hogan won the World Tag Team Championship in July 2002. They could not keep the championship for long, however, as they were defeated by Lance Storm and Christian. Edge’s animosity with Christian was eventually put to rest when he won the SmackDown bout.

2004-2005

Edge established a tag team with Rey Mysterio for the SmackDown! WWE Tag Team Championship. Despite losing against Kurt Angle and Christ Benoit, the bout was chosen as ‘Match of the Year.’ Later, Edge and Mysterio won their first Tag Team Championship, only to lose it later against Los Guerreros. Following the defeat, Edge parted ways with Mysterio in order to concentrate on his singles career. In the WWE draft lottery in 2004, he was assigned to the Raw brand. He and Benoit defeated Kane to capture the World Tag Team Championship. When Edge defeated Randy Orton to win the Intercontinental Championship at Vengeance, the team split. Edge and Benoit, on the other hand, lost the World Tag Team Championship in November.

Edge fought in the first Elimination Chamber match after the World Heavyweight Championship was relinquished in 2005, which he won by beating Michaels. Simultaneously, at WrestleMania 21, he won his first Money in the Bank ladder match, propelling him to the World Heavyweight Championship. He lost his first World Heavyweight Championship bout against Batista. Edge challenged John Cena, the then-reigning WWE Champion, for the championship after losing his 2006 New Year’s Revolution bout against Flair. Edge beat Cena with two spears to win his first WWE Championship. It was also his first world title victory. Later, on January 16, 2006, he retained the WWE Championship by defeating Ric Flair in a TLC match. Edge, however, lost the WWE Championship to Cena at the Royal Rumble.

2006-2007

Edge won his second WWE Championship by defeating Van Dam in a Triple Threat match on Raw. He defended his championship against John Cena at SummerSlam. The two wrestled again in September 2006 at the Unforgiven event, when Edge lost the belt to Cena. Edge and Randy Orton established the tag team Rated RKO in October 2006. RKO was the first to triumph against Triple H and Shawn Michaels’ DX. They quickly dominated the Raw brand’s tag team, eventually becoming tag team champions. Edge has had a total of 11 World Tag Team Championship title reigns in his WWE career.

They lost their championship when Michaels and Cena defeated the Rated RKO team.

Edge became the first individual to win the Money in the Bank contract twice in May 2007. Meanwhile, Undertaker regained control of the World Heavyweight Championship from Batista. Edge afterwards speared Undertaker to win his first World Heavyweight Championship. At Judgment Day, he successfully defended his championship against Batista. However, after losing to Kane, he was forced to forfeit the title. Edge won the World Heavyweight Championship at Armageddon in November 2007. However, he lost the World Heavyweight Championship to The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXIV.

2008-2009

Edge lost the championship to Hardy the following month in a Triple Threat match at Armageddon. Interestingly, he won the championship in a no disqualification match at the Royal Rumble, but lost it in February 2009 at the No Way Out event at Elimination Chamber.

Edge captured his ninth World Championship after defeating Rey Mysterio and transferring the belt to SmackDown. In a Triple Threat match at WrestleMania XXV, he lost the belt to John Cena. He won it again, only to be defeated by Jeff Hardy. Edge and Chris Jericho won the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship at The Bash in 2009. With the victory, he became the World Tag Team Champion for the 12th time. Edge and Jericho’s relationship later soured when Edge had an injury.

2010

Edge returned to the ring in 2010 during the Royal Rumble. Despite returning from injury, he won the Royal Rumble for the first time in his career. In the final bout, he beat John Cena.

Edge was recruited back to WWE Raw after winning the Royal Rumble. He began a feud with his old teammates Christian and Randy Orton on SmackDown and Rated RKO. He returned to the Money in the Bank ladder match as well, but was unable to win. Edge beat Dolph Ziggler in an episode of SmackDown in October 2010 to become a member of Team SmackDown at WWE’s Bragging Rights PPV event. He even won the championship for Team SmackDown.

Following his triumph for Team SmackDown, he won the World Heavyweight Championship for the sixth time in December 2010 when he beat Kane, Rey Mysterio, and Alberto Del Rio in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match at the TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs PPV event. As a result, he is now a ten-time World Champion. He later successfully defended his Championship against Kane.

In an Elimination Chamber match, he successfully defended his World Heavyweight Championship belt by pinning Rey Mysterio. Edge’s last official in-ring bout was against Alberto Del Rio at WrestleMania XXVII. In the final match, he pinned down Del Rio and successfully defended his world title.
